Rick Schwartz to auction Flowers.mobi at no reserve at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Miami

On October 19th we’ll be auctioning off the infamous Flowers.mobi at no reserve.

Most of you remember him paying $200,000 for the name back in 2006. Controversy quickly ensued and the entire transaction is now legendary.

So now you can own this famous name with back links and a story at a fraction of the price. The opportunity is yours.

Funny to see this name being auctioned again :) I think it will be an example of the biggest drop in domain price ever.

  • http://www.forumndd.com Nom de domaine

Still some doubts about that :
"paying $200,000 for the name" :)

Anyway, good luck with the auction !!!!

  • nr

it will probably sell for around $5k this time

  • http://www.nametalent.com Mike Law

@Nom de domaine - The $200k purchase is true, look it up :)

Well, good luck with the auction!

  • http://www.new.us Dot Us

It will go for just under $60k because of the story and the owner attached to it. Not because it's worth that.

  • Ruben

It will probably not sell this time ! Are there people buying and developing dot mobi actually ?

  • http://www.ComprarDominio.com Leonard Britt

The likely result will be a loss from the acquisition price but the nice thing about domaining is that like baseball, you can strike out frequently but as long as you make an occasional home run, you can still do OK.

  • martin

Is the above picture of flowers in Miami?

  • http://ricklatona.com Rick Latona

No mountains in Miami, I'm afraid. That's why I left Florida. I like something on the horizon.

  • C.T. Kirkpatrick

It's a tough market to be selling a top Mobi or any newer TLD. Obviously this name will sell at a big loss. Dot Mobi in particular has become virtually worthless on the wholesale level. As one who's invested in Mobi here's wishing you well with the sale.

On the positive side, the search term "flowers" is a great mobile keyword so it could be a great buy for the right development or business company. Will 1-800-Flowers be invited to bid?

  • http://mises.org Troy

Wow. That is probably one of the most beautiful pictures that I have ever seen.

  • Louise

Is that Victoria, Canada? Nice. Always wanted to go. Do you post your own photos?

  • http://www.ehot.net Stian Eng Holtet

I'm glad I never speculated in .mobi domains..

BTW, the photo in the article looks like it's taken somewhere in Norway. :)

  • http://dnb2b.mobi/ Sri

If I were the man behind .mobi TLD, I would go and do a deal with all the mobile (phone) Internet service providers and mobile phone makers to create a native (to the phone) search engine that would default to the .mobi extension when a keyword was searched. The mobile phone device itself should make the search process intuitive.

Already there are many times more Internet enabled mobile phones in circulation than are personal computers with Internet. Mobile phone based payment solutions are catching up faster than regular PC/Internet based e-commerce.

Hey! If anyone finds this useful, do lookup my site - you will know where to send the cheque :)

Selling Candy.com made up for the flowers.mobi purchase. I'm sure the intentions were good. Maybe a flower company will snatch up the domain. I'm sure it's worth far more than roulette.mobi. That domain sold at Sedo for $11k a few months ago.

  • Rich

Hey Rick ! Who is the pigeon ****now? if you sell it for less than $200,000 u owe us ,the new pigeons in town an apology. If you do sell it for more then what you pay for it, will give you credit as the king of pigeons.

  • John Marks

Victoria, go back to school and take a few geography lessons.
There are no high mountains around Victoria.
There are beautiful mountains surrounding Vancouver but not Victoria

At least I didn't say Florida!

Where is it, then? No comment from RL.

  • Louise

    Vancouver. That's my final guess.

Nevermind about the Florida comment. American's notoriously bad with geography! My German cousins used to make fun of me.

  • John Marks

Louise, I am glad you did not get mad about my comment.
I am sure this is not Vancouver because I live there.
I have no idea where this picture is from (maybe Argentina)

  • Gary

I've got a funny feeling the picture is a montage / mock-up as the flowers in the foreground don't suit the likely climate that the background suggests.
Flowers.mobi will sell at a loss, that much I think we all agree on.
I suspect the price will be in the $10k to $40k range, if I had to be more specific I'd go for $27k
The name still has potential, 'mobile' still hasn't woken up to its full potential so flowers.mobi could still take us by surprise but I'm far from being bullish on the extension any more.... dotmobi is not, was not & is unlikely to be the default extension for mobile as much as it now pains me to say

  • http://www.brightdomai.com Thanh

This picture, I think it was taken at Lake Louis, Alberta, Canada.

Personally I think he paid squat for the domain it was more likely was gifted or handed across as an offset for helping promote .mobi

Has anyone ever seen that he wrote a check for that amount and he never received any payment or monies from .mobi? I.e. all interests disclosed?

I'd like to know if this was properly arms length. So much incest in this "industry".

Look at the barrage of high value sales at the outset of .mobi.. then it seems the same as .co and in 12 months?

  • Nour

The picture there was most likely done with Photoshop! So i think u wrong again Louise! lol ;)

    You are right.
    Who cares about .mobi ?
    .mobi is DEAD, Amen

  • http://zoop.co chris

unfortunately I dont see this domain recovering the initial $200K price tag - but we shall see - best of luck. It does have some history behind. It should be thought of more as a "fine wine"
