Known as the Steve McQueen Rolex, the Explorer II model 1655, was introduced in 1971. It's a unique design for Rolex as it has an Orange 24 hour hand which was put their for cave explorers or spelunkers who wouldn't know if it was night time or daytime without it. Only the Rolex Steve McQueen watches made between 1971 and 1974 had the orange 24 hour hand like the one we have here. From 1974 to 1985 the 24 hour hand would have been red and they discontinued the line after 1985.
Thus, this is a rare watch and a sought after piece for Rolex aficionados.
