To continue the series on driver’s watches like the Rolex Daytona and Breitling Windrider Chronomat which have been blogged about this week, today we’ll look at the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch.
The “Moonwatch or Moon Watch” is technically called the Omega Speedmaster Professional. What’s interesting about this watch line’s story is that Omega didn’t make the watch for NASA. Rather, NASA just went to the store and bought a bunch of chronographs and tested them all in-house. The Omega won the test.
Omega may not be a favorite brand of our American readers but they are very big world wide and catching a bigger piece of the luxury market on the U.S. shores. I think their crowning advertisement achievement of this past decade was the Olympic Games in 2008 where they were the official time keeper. How many times did you see the clock when Michael Phelps won by 1/100th second to win his 7th gold metal of the games?
The watch itself has a clean design and is comfortable to wear. It’s a classic luxury watch style and perfect for the man who looks for “stealth wealth” and an everyday watch that looks good with jeans.
Incidentally, if you are looking specifically for a driver’s watch, the tachometer on this watch is much easier to read than the previous two I posted about.
The watch we have is complete with box and papers.
