Things you should know about the new Latona's auction platform

We've received many questions, suggestions and complaints about our new auction platform in the hours since the announcement. In this thread I'm going to do my best to get them answered.

When does the auction end? The no reserve premium name auction that is running right now starts to end in the morning at 10:00 am EST. Friday morning.  However, the lots have staggered closing so the "ending" of the auction will last more than four hours. One name closes every 2 minutes.

There have been questions about the difference between a proxy bid and a fixed bid. The proxy bids are for when you will be away and want our system to bid for you. Our system will bid automatically using fixed bid increments to keep you one increment ahead of your competitor until your proxy has been exhausted.

The fixed bids will jump the bid immediately. If the current bid is $150 and you bid $1250. $1250 will be the current winning bid and it'll need to be trumped for you to lose.

Bidding within the last 5 minutes WILL extend the auction of that lot.

I'll be adding to this post as questions come in. You may also post your questions here. I've posted again our entire inventory here for your convenience. Remember the starting bid on all of these names is only $1.

Are you considering ccTLDs also ?

  • Stefan

So what is advantage of fixed bid? :)

  • http://www.mediaoptions.com Andrew Rosener

In your list above you have: SurfTheWeb.com

But I don't see it in the live auction?

  • http://www.ricklatona.com Rick Latona

Kedaar, sure we'll consider ccTLDs if they are good ones and priced right.

Stefan, I can envision many situations where it may make sense.

    Andrew, sorry for that error.

When you say "daily" domain auctions, what does that mean? How often will these auctions be held? Are you currently accepting new submissions?

  • http://www.ricklatona.com Rick Latona

Jerry, we are still trying to establish the exact frequency that we will be holding these auctions. I'll have to get back to you on that one. You can send submissions to submissions AT latonas.com

How about for people who would like to link your newsletter sign-up or auction page to their viewers with medium budget who are looking to brand their business, create a widget or at least consolidate newsletter info to one landing page on Latonas, so we can link back Right now, I like: http://www.latonas.com/mainportal.prt?action=history but there's no sign up form for the newsletter, and link to latest results, or latest auction. The content starts in the middle of the page or bottom third, so the viewer has to scroll - you make your prospective new sign-ups work to get the info! Your sites are great, but that is where I can see improvement: consolidate the newsletter to its own description page with sign up and either the latest list or current auction link . . . so people can get an idea . . . "These names sold at $300.00, $500.00, $1000.00, $400 - this is within my budget and those are the quality level names I am looking for, so I'll sign up with Latonas newsletter [Is it Latonas or Rick Latona? - call it Latonas Newsletter!] Oh, and here's the link for the current auction - let me view it to see if there's anything I want!"
