Latona’s to start selling watches. Why that is good news for domainers.

February 11th, 2010 by Rick Latona

As I’ve said before, my ambitions in the domain industry start and stop with the auction company, loans and T.R.A.F.F.I.C. I have no intention of setting up a parking company or doing 40 other things that could possibly make a buck.

All I want to do is sell things. In our offices we are constantly reminding ourselves to focus on the real mission. That mission is to grow and build the brokerage and auction company.

Growth, as I see it in my situation, should come by stepping laterally, rather than forward.

As an entity, we are expanding rapidly into other niche products. Our WeBuyWatches.com site is working and that means that any of you interested in a fine time-piece can get a super deal from us.

New divisions are in the pipeline. There will be much more than just watches added to the network.

This is good news for domainers because these luxury product divisions will drive more high net worth individuals to the site who will in turn, be aware of the domains.

For now, our watch sales are very low-tech. Eventually there will be a marketplace on Latona’s and watches amongst other things will be added to the main navigation.

In the meantime, we are getting started the same way we got started in domains. We’ve setup a simple newsletter for the watches that you can subscribe to at watches.latonas.com.

Very cool – I like the idea and think it is great to take a model you know works and see it applied across different verticals!!

Nice one, you could do the same with Gold etc.

    Rick-

Really like where you’re going with your business. I’d like to see you adopt a model like bidz.com where an established list of products is auctioned off within various categories (domains being one of them.) You could certainly add watches as well… Later, allow your customers to submit high end domains (after screening) and auction them off in real time while you take your commissions of course. The model is excellent and certainly minimizes your exposure to the whims of the domain market.

    Cheers,

I wish you good luck with the new branch of operations :)
I really didn’t like the talking guy though, took me 5 seconds to find how to turn him off :(

  8. Its funny you say this just after I picked up http://www.watches.tv after Verisign blew up the Dot TV Business Model this week. I agree Watches are a luxury and starting out now at a low point in the market will generate dividends for you!
