If you could ask Kevin Ham 3 questions, what would they be?

May 19th, 2009 by Rick Latona

It’s only 2 weeks until Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Amsterdam and we are really busy with preparations. One thing you guys could help me with is to help me think of questions to ask Kevin Ham. If you had 3 questions you could ask him, what would they be?

  1. What is your favourite domain that you own and why?

What do you believe the future holds for domain name parking / development?

Would you ever sell Reinvent? If yes would be your ideal buyer?

  2. Bob says:

What would be the most important thing that you would be doing right now, and why, if you weren’t in the domain business?

What would you advise a new entrant to pursue in the domain business?

Who were your biggest influences in the domain space, and why?

  3. dotcomproblems says:

If Dr. Ham is still involved in the .cm registry and agoga, why is he letting trademarked names, ie. Toyota.cm, Chase.cm resolve to competitors ads. Is he continuing to make revenues off trademarked names? It gives us all a bad name if he is. Domainers all get lumped into the same bucket when news items about trademark infringement and typo squatting hit the news. Will he be cleaning up the .cm registry and stop making money off trademarked names? This continued practice just gives trademark attorneys more ammunition to steal your generic domains.

    1. What do you think of using social media sites like Twitter to promote domains/websites?

    2. What are your top 5 domains?

    3. What do you do in a normal day/week at your business?

  5. If there is one guy in the domain business who has bent over backwards to support and promote your various products and business endeavours Kevin I think you would agree that it was Ron Jackson of DNJOURNAL.

Why would you own or support the monetization of domain names like http://www.DNJOUNAL.COM? I see you have a ‘for sale” sign on the lander. Wow, way to work those alternative revenue streams.

Kevin, you seem to like to refer to your bowel movements when you are giving speaches so you’ll probably be able to relate to my next question which is why do you poop where you sleep by supporting the ownership and monetization of domain names that obviously infringe upon people who for all intents and purposes are relatively close to you in a business sense? Lets take http://www.DOMAIMSTATE.COM for example.

Gee, i wish I could ask four questions…

Kevin, I know a guy who is well respected in the domain world with whom I am in the midst of a heated argument. I am hoping that you will impart your wisdom as a domain name expert to settle our dispute once and for all. He claims that the domain world is full of “smoke and mirrors”. I say there are no mirrors in domainland. Which one of us is right?

  6. Rick Silver says:

    1. What ccTLDs do you like and why (other than .cm)

    2. What do you think the future of .us is, in say 5 years.

    3. What will be the impact of an explosion in gTLD’s ( .anything ) on .com and on ccTLDs

  7. What are your thoughts about Fractional Domaining?

Are there ways that other domainers can interact with you for mutual benefit?

Are you open to investing in others’ business ideas (if so, what is your preferred way to be contacted)?

  8. AW says:

Dr. Ham, I would be interested in hearing your view on IDN’s? You speak several languages (English,Korean, additional languages maybe?) and i would like to know how do you feel IDN domains will effect the Korean,Japanese,Chinese,Russian etc markets in the near/far future

  9. Drewbert says:

    Kevin,

    1. Why move to Dubai NOW? Isn’t everyone else leaving? (Well, the ones that can get out because their passports aren’t being held by their employers)

    2. Will you be able to complete your talk without getting religious?

    3. Will you be able to complete your talk without going off on a tangent every 2nd sentence?

  10. Drewbert says:

Actually, mulling it over, since the conference is focusing on ccTLD’s it would be great if you could get someone (maybe the affiliate manager) for allegro.pl to talk. Those guys are WIPING THE ONLINE AUCTION FLOOR WITH eBAY in a number of European countries, including Poland, Hungary, Ukraine and Russia, and they’re using their success to leverage themselves into other industries as well (online payments etc etc).

They’re someone I’d love to hear from. Especially if we’re going to drag ourselves kicking and screaming away from PPC pages for all our ccTLD domains.

Allegro.pl has been so successful they were recently bought out by Naspers.com, a huge South African media company.

    Tangent over.

  11. Ken says:

    Kevin.

I only have one question for you.

If you were starting out in Domains today as a rookie, what would you start out with and you think you would have become as succesful as you ‘r today.

  12. Robbie says:

    1) Do you agree with the following proberv?:
Better to be known as a sinner than a hypocrite.

2)What is your real name ? surely is not Kevin Ham.

    3) Are you ready for the release of the .co ?

  13. vangirl says:

Make sure you would ask these questions to Kevin’s face and not be brave just because you are online…..speaking specifically to domaincop & Drewbert….everyone can be brave and outspoken when they can hide behind a forum like this.
“When we judge or criticize another person, it says nothing about that person; it merely says something about our own need to be critical.”

  14. Games.ie says:

DomainCop: Interesting to see that both DNJOUNAL.COM & DOMAIMSTATE.COM are both “Domain Disabled” after your post! Due to the upcoming TRAFFIC u think? Think u touched a nerve there mate. ;)

  15. Games.ie says:

Rick Silver: Really looking forward to your seminar on ccTLD mass development/monitization! Would love to have a chat to you at some stage afterwards too ;)

  16. Rick Silver says:

    Thanks Games.ie
I look forward to meeting you there. I am around all week

  17. Anthony says:

    Kevin

    1. What do you think will be the fully monetized value of God.com ?

    2. Do you think Satan is planning something evil for you because you own his domain ?

    3. Which gTLDs interest you the most ?
