eNom, VeriSign and Rick Latona Auctions partner to auction off premium .TV names without steep renewal fees.

Big news for .TV fans -

June 4th 2009, in Amsterdam, during the Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C. domainer event in Europe, Rick Latona Auctions will be auctioning off .TV domain names that normally have well above average premium renewal fees.

These premium names have been available for years but haven't moved due to high fixed annual costs associated with them. The deal offered now is much more attractive.

Let's take a look at a an example:

Satellite.tv will be auctioned off with a $30,000 reserve and the renewal fee is now only $750 per year. That's an exceptional deal considering the renewal fee was $10,000 per year before. Now someone could really make a business out of this premium name.

Some others:

Domain Reserve New Special Renewal Fee
Help.tv $37,500 $1000
Home.tv $90,000 $1500
Traffic.tv $25,000 $750
Lawyers.tv $25,000 $750
Sales.tv $14,000 $750
Racing.tv $14,000 $750
Classic.tv $15,000 $750
Classics.tv $15,000 $750
Germany.tv $75,000 $1000
Today.tv $9,000 $750

One question that I am anticipating is whether or not these can be transfered. The answer is yes. As long as the names are renewed, they can be transfered at this special renewal fee. They can never be transfered out of eNom, however.

This is the first time these names have been offered like this and the chance may not come again. Please let us know if you have any questions or if you would like to apply for financing on one of the names.

Since it's not a question of IF but WHEN the Web and TV really merge, this list, in the right hands, IS a media empire. So long as the contract is signed by @demandrichard and Chief Tuvaluan Apisai Ielemia!

Are you accepting submissions for this auction?

Sorry... forgot to say great post - can't wait to read your next one!

Do you have a list of other cctld's that will be auctioned off ?

Mainly intrested in the .us names you will have for sale.

    Thanks,
    Stevie.

These names still look badly overpriced. Even if the reserves were zero I'm not sure most of these would sell.

Example: Who on earth would pay $15,000 for classic.tv with an annual renewal of $750? The pricing makes no sense. If verisign really wants to move these names they need to scrap the reserve or charge normal renewal fees ($15), they can't have it both ways.

    Hi Rick,

This is a great list of .TV domain names and acceptable renewal rates. The renewal rate for Germany.TV is really enticing.

Questions. I have nice GEO names at $1000 renewal and I'm willing to auction at low reserve $5K only. Drop me a note.

    Thanks,
    EM @ KING.NET

These prices are all out of wack. While the renewals are acceptable, the asking prices are waaaaayy to high for your auction. Even as a .tv fan, I don't see these selling at those prices.

Classic.tv and Satellite.tv should be 30% of those rates.

A few questions bidders may want to know, guys:

What are/will be their expire dates at time of auction/purchase?

    # of years they can be prepaid for at these quoted rates once purchased? If applicable, how long after the auction will any buyers have for such prepayment, i.e. a week, a month, longer?

    # of years/until what day/month/year these renewal fees will be locked in for? In writing at/prior to auction; as a condition of sale?

Anything else potential bidders should know about renewal pricing; now and down the road?

Nice to see something different tried in order to shift some of the leftover .TVs with higher than average Premiums.

I hope this auction does allow for the true facts on .TV to get out as many domainers comment often on .TVs but don't understand the setup or aftermarket.
Anyone thinking of entering this auction then i urge you to really research .Tv as there has been so much progress from the Enduser side of things with great sales, excellent sites launched, top brands using .tv's, major .com sites buying .tv's to work with their .com, average .com sites rebranding to top quality .tv's at a fraction of the price...etc (so much happening but if you listen to the pure domainers like Snoop then you will only hear the .com domainers side of things)
    Things to note:
1: Most .TVs don't have Premium renewals like those stated for the domains above (I mean before the discount offered in this auction) So far all those domainers who say 'All the best .TVs have massive premium renewals' You are wrong!
2: .TVs are getting used worldwide by many massive brands, many of who paid big money for their domains & ploughed MASSIVE money into developments.
3: There is massive developments going on right now by .TV owners, conditions are right for media rich websites so i really expect the next 2,3 years to be BIG for .TVs

Regards the actual domains being auctioned.
The Premium Fee's at the reduced rate are fine for anyone to get a hold of a top domain but the reserves are too high on almost every domain.
Only 1 of these would be likely to get near the reserve on an auction unless you can find the ideal Enduser then anything could happen.

The one that interest me the most as a Geo owner is Germany.tv
I know plenty of Geo .TV owners who have rejected offers of $xx,xxx & at least a handful that sold for $20K+ so reaching a figure around there would be my expected price so i don't expect that to sell.
There is massive interest in Geo.TV by investors & developers though most of the best Geo's are bought up by people who would not sell unless they get Enduser prices, the Geo.TV market has been getting larger all the time so IF there is a number of bidders for Germany.TV then i would not be shocked as lots of domain investors have been trying to buy up top Geo.Tv purely for long-term investments but with so few of the top domains available then possibly we will see some really big deals for those that may be available.

I hope this Auction does go well but in my view you may struggle to reach reserves unless you do work very hard to get Endusers involved (not as hard as it seems as IF domainers actually spent some time researching .tv's then they would find Endusers/Developers have really taken to .TVs)

Good Luck from a curious Geo.TV owner.

I think that $15k for classic.tv is a good price - showing re-runs is massive business now with a much greater profit margin for the tv company. It would need very little imagination to put together a site for this name, and it could be a massive link in the chain for moving regular tv onto the net.
Rick, where can we see the full list of tvs?

  • Rick Latona

What are/will be their expire dates at time of auction/purchase?
    - The domains are available for registration. Once the registration (payment complete) happens it will be the new create date and then the expiration is one year later.

    # of years they can be prepaid for at these quoted rates once purchased?
    - Maximum term is 10 years.

If applicable, how long after the auction will any buyers have for such prepayment, i.e. a week, a month, longer?
    - 5 days to send the bank wire is our standard

    # of years/until what day/month/year these renewal fees will be locked in for?
    -Perpetuity

  • Geo.TVowner

If you have a full list of the .Tv's in this auction then please post it or send it to me, i'd be happy to forward it to most of the regular .tv owners.

"I think that $15k for classic.tv is a good price"

Let's see if James buys it.

  • Geo.TVowner

"Let’s see if James buys it."

Mr Snoopy - Are you saying that anyone that thinks a domain is good value HAS to buy it in order for them to back up their opinion??

I THINK The Geo .com in my Country is a good price at $x,xxx, xxx but i won't be buying it, does that mean i'm wrong?

IF you don't rate .Tv's & don't think these will do well in Auction then thats your opinion & i respect that.
Though i do find the way you follow .Tv related threads in multiple forums just to snipe as being a little strange but maybe that's just me.

  • James

"Let’s see if James buys it."

James has bought other premium .tv names. James isn't involved in the area of development that was mentioned and doesn't speculate on premium .tvs - just an enduser.
