Final Auction Inventory for Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Amsterdam released here. More names, a few .coms

May 30, 2009 by Rick Latona · 16 Comments

It’s been a challenge to assemble this list and I’m sure everyone will have their opinions but here it is below. Please note, we’ve also added just a few great .com names just because they were too good to turn down. DiamondRings.com and FluShots.com! What great names.

As well, all bidding will be done in Euros and the reserves are represented in Euros below.

The list has been sorted here in alphabetical order for your convenience. The order will be set soon and live on proxibid.com/ricklatona.

eNom, VeriSign and Rick Latona Auctions partner to auction off premium .TV names without steep renewal fees.

May 16, 2009 by Rick Latona · 15 Comments

Big news for .TV fans -

June 4th 2009, in Amsterdam, during the Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C. domainer event in Europe, Rick Latona Auctions will be auctioning off .TV domain names that normally have well above average premium renewal fees.

These premium names have been available for years but haven’t moved due to high fixed annual costs associated with them. The deal offered now is much more attractive.

Let’s take a look at a an example:

Satellite.tv will be auctioned off with a $30,000 reserve and the renewal fee is now only $750 per year. That’s an exceptional deal considering the renewal fee was $10,000 per year before. Now someone could really make a business out of this premium name.

Some others:

Domain Reserve New Special Renewal Fee
Help.tv $37,500 $1000
Home.tv $90,000 $1500

One question that I am anticipating is whether or not these can be transfered. The answer is yes. As long as the names are renewed, they can be transfered at this special renewal fee. They can never be transfered out of eNom, however.

This is the first time these names have been offered like this and the chance may not come again. Please let us know if you have any questions or if you would like to apply for financing on one of the names.

NL.com and Amsterdam.com to be auctioned off at Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C. ccTLDs in Amsterdam June 1st through the 4th

May 12, 2009 by Rick Latona · 12 Comments

Not all of the names at the auction will be ccTLDs although the mass-majority of them will.

If a name is relevant to Europe and is a premium .com it can get exposure. NL.com and Amsterdam.com both fitting that bill for obvious reasons.

The value of these two names can be tremendous.

.nl has always been one of the top registered extensions out there. It consistently competes with the big boys like .de and .cn for the top number of registrations. Someone could clearly sell names.nl.com as sub-domains to name just one possible use for it.

Amsterdam, of course, is Amsterdam. The geo guys will be drooling over this name. It’s an incredible tourist destination and spending time in the city signing on advertisers isn’t the worst way to pass the days.

We are looking for other monster, relevent names like these. Please only submit super-premium names in the .com extension.

Of course, first and foremost, the show remains commited to ccTLDs so don’t hold back on those. Of particular note, we are a little light on premium .us and .de names so send those in if you have them.

*incidentally, the reserves on these two names will be published soon enough along with the rest of the list.

Hey! Who put ICANN in my domainer meeting? .de, .uk, .nl, .at, .pl, .no, .be, .fi, .fr, .mx, .us, .se, .tv to attend T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Amsterdam

May 8, 2009 by Rick Latona · 10 Comments

The list of central registries that will attend Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Amsterdam continues to grow. NEVER BEFORE have so many registries and so many domainers been in the same place. It is almost like ICANN is coming to us but without having to deal with ICANN!

I’m so incredibly excited about the way things are shaping up. Registrations are coming in hot and heavy. Here are the countries that will be speaking so far. *Note that the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. website will be updated by Monday. Some of these countries aren’t listed on the agenda yet but they will be by Monday. Also, as mentioned yesterday. Dr Kevin Ham will keynote.

Here are some of the country registries which you can meet at the show:

Germany (.de)
United Kingdom (.uk)
The Netherlands (.nl)
Austria (.at)
Poland (.pl)
Norway (.no)
Belgium (.be)
Finland (.fi)
France (.fr)
Mexico (.mx)
United States (.us)
Sweden (.se)
Tuvalu (.tv)

More are expected to sign on soon. This is not a 2 day show. This is an opening day plus 3 full days! We barely have enough time to pack in all of the information.

This is the first trade show I’ve ever thrown and I’m commited to making it the ultimate show that I would want to go to myself. I couldn’t be more excited!

Dr Kevin Ham to Keynote at Traffic Amsterdam June 1st through 4th

May 7, 2009 by Rick Latona · 9 Comments

I couldn’t be happier that Dr. Kevin Ham, a medical doctor, Harvard MBA, programmer, designer, businessman and father of five will Keynote T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Amsterdam.

He’s a titan in the industry and much has been written about him. Reinvent and Hitfarm are his best known brands in the business but anyone that knows him knows there is much more to the story. Kevin has agreed to deliver the keynote live, via satellite, which will allow us to interact with him as if he were on our stage! I’ll be asking him questions, and will also open it up to the audience. What a great opportunity to ask the world’s ‘Master of Domains’ how he sees the future of our industry

Over the months we’ve considered everyone from famous technology entrepreneurs to famous movie stars but in the end, we wanted one of the most famous domainers. People are coming to the show to learn more about domains and I can’t imagine who would be more valuable on stage than someone of Dr Ham’s caliber.

Many of you probably remember the impromptu speech he gave at a previous T.R.A.F.F.I.C. show in Vegas a few years back. It was spontaneous yet it delivered an incredible reaction in the domainer community. It was surely the most forwarded domainer speech of all time. I’ve embedded it below.

My own personal experience in this industry started with Dr Ham. I had been fascinated with domains for some time but was never really in the business of domains until I sold him Spanish.com.

After that sale I took those funds and bought more names and started to really get involved. I’ll never forget meeting him a few months later at the very first Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C.show in South Florida. I said, “remember me? I sold you Spanish.com.” He said, “If you were staying in the business you should have kept the name”. — That has to be my favorite line I’ve ever had said to me at a tradeshow.

Heading back from Spain. What a wonderful time. What great people.

May 5, 2009 by Rick Latona · 7 Comments

I’m returning from the Domaining.es forum in Valencia, Spain. What a great trip. The people, the country and the city have been fantastic.

I’ve never been invited to stay in someone else’s home so often. This was the most hospitable and welcoming group of individuals I’ve come across in some time.

From the beginning I was welcomed with open arms. Unless something significant comes up, I’ll return next year for sure.

Special thanks to (and in no particular order):

Dietmar J Stefitz (my host with the most)

Daniel Dryzek (and his lovely wife)

Alfredo Torres Ruiz

Felix Mezcua

Jaime Ferrer

Jesus Alonso Gallo

Amaya Eicken

Luis Tolosa

Roberto Beltran

Estrella Moreira

Sonia Llatas Piera

There were 40 more people there but I’m afraid I didn’t get all of their business cards.

The .es extension is going to do very well with this group of people as the early adopters.
