I’m in the market to buy an existing Registrar

January 8th, 2009 by Rick Latona

I’m in the market to buy an existing registrar with customers and revenue.

It’s the next evolution of our company. We want it for security as well as a host of other reasons that I don’t need to go into here.

The natural thing to do would be to keep it a secret that I was getting into the business. However, I’m not one for doing things the normal way and I figure I’ll get a lot more leads through this public forum.

If you or someone you know has information that can help me in this acquisition quest, let me know.

  3. Well Rick, you arent the only person that has been considering this.

I have been looking at few registrars that currently have a nice business model that could be expanded on with the correct marketing and management.

I wish you the best of luck with finding one – Im looking for a registrar that is based in Europe with offices worldwide – I have found one now its time to look at there books and arrange the finance.

Are you looking for a US based registrar or outside the US?

    Regards,

    Robbie

  4. An excellent choice Rick, especially considering the value of your holdings and the offerings you have with the Sales, Auctions and DigiPawn.

Rick, I sent a direct email to you about this – need to know a few more details about your requirements, since I know about a few accredited registrars that are out on the market.

Considering the changes over the last year at ICANN (and some of the registries) in policies when it comes to ownership changes of registrars, you might want to consider going through the accreditation process yourself instead, since it appears to me a lot of the advantage of purchasing an existing registrar has disappeared lately.

@ Rick – “I’m in the market to buy an existing registrar with customers and revenue.”

Not sure to what extent this would be for your own portfolio vs. external customer focus. You could attract many domainers and their portfolios by offering truly competent customer service. Many domainers are beyond sick of the registrar chest thumpers who trumpet their service on the boards, but who don’t answer email for 2-3 weeks.

Their is a huge void in registrar integrity and quality service. Someone with the right mindset could fill that void and steal a huge segment of the market in a short time period.

Nice thinking Rick, I believe you’ll be quite succesful, if you need opinions and suggestions or whatnot, give me an email, I’ll gladly work an article about it.
