Grey Goose and Domaining don't mix well

I should have lost the bet but I didn't. In an effort to sell DayTraders.com to Jay Westerdal (founder of DomainTools.com), we decided to flip a coin over whether he got a screaming good deal or just a good deal. The value of the coin toss was $34,200.

Of course, all of this was happening about four hours into a night on the town in Cairo. Neither of us had any business making that bet.

I had suggested that we just flip once but Jay wanted to flip two-out-of-three. I lost the first toss then won the next two.

Jay is now the proud owner of DayTraders.com for the still very reasonable price and low multiple of $84,200.

That is a great story. Would have loved to be in on that night in Cairo. Did it come with a hangover?

Is it the liquor or the long flight that is evident in your eyes?! :)

  • Rick Latona

    I think it's the camera flash. ;)

Great job, although drinking and domaining is usually not a good thing (I have made a few "blackout offers" in the past :D ).

    sounds like a blast,

you guys like to play poker? :)

  • http://www.WatchCount.com/ Jake

Wow. As a rookie domainer, I must say I'm quite impressed with the large figures I keep seeing thrown around.

Grey Goose, huh. Mixed with anything, or shots? I s'pose if Everclear were at play, the outcome could've been much different.

A great domain name and noteworthy sale. Rick, you and Jay are living the life, that many of us can't wait to experience firsthand. keep the stories coming, they're inspiring and interesting.

  • Matt Collins

I can't think of anything more exciting than a $34,000 coin toss. Rest assured, drinking and domaining do go GREAT together and provide a lot of entertainment to the rest of us!

Rick...looks like you flipped off the wrong guy by the looks of that band-aid

  • http://www.microguy.net Greg

A very nice name and screaming good buy... congrats to both. I love the story by the way... resonates so well with me. My biggest sell ever was on Grey Goose... can not wait to see what Absinthe does for me.

  • Raul

Hey Rick...good job. This reminds me of the time when I sold my domains over Grey Goose. Although my deal was for far less than yours but, still a deal for me. :)

4 hours through the night, I was checking my mail and my inbox says "Are you interested to sell your website". I thought it's spam. I was drunk. I still opened it.

Read it. Sipped. Read on. Sipped again. Sold.

    Lol.

    Good times.

    Raul

  • Raul

    Actually...just 1 domain.

  • http://www.nomcast.com NomCast

    awwww...congrats Jay!

  • http://www.successclick.com Stephen Douglas

Congrats to the both of you. I think I can speak freely when I say that many domainers would love to have the financial ability to bet $34,200 on a coin toss for a domain price. In fact, forget domainers, just take the average American, who makes that much in a year.

    Isn't domaining fun!!

  • http://www.successclick.com Stephen Douglas

okay, i'm using gravatar. does it work automatically? I'll test it now with this post. My last post I couldn't update with the pic. Cool service tho!

  • http://www.successclick.com Stephen Douglas

nope, not working. Now that I have a gravatar pic, how do i implement it in my post?

  • Raul

Hey Stephen, the gravtar pic comes with the corresponding email id.
1 more thing, it takes time (like 10-15 mins) for the pic to get activated.

    Try it again.

And yes : Domaining is fun!

  • Carter

    Good job Rick!

Congrats for the deal, Man, That is a good money

  • Eric
