The first thing you need to do to play scratch golf is to play a round of scratch golf. Do it just before a course closes in the evening when hardly anyone is there. If your first drive on your first hole doesn't set you up for your second shot, take another shot until one shot does. In other words, repeat bad shots until you make shots you can achieve par with on that every hole. In other words, play as many shots as needed till you get the scratch calibre shot. PLay the entire round like that. If you can shoot scratch that way, with enough practice and training, then you know you can become a scratch golfer. If what I say can't be done, then it's unlikely you'll ever be a scratch golfer.
You see, five years ago, at age 58 and just retired, one of my goals were to be a scratch golfer. Last season, I was an 80's golfer. But I've made changes. I'm practicing over the winter. If it doesn't happen this summer, it'll happen next.
Non golf work outs are four a week, last an hour with a heavy emphasis on weight training. I'm becoming a scratch golfer. It's only a matter of health and time.
