Hillary Clinton can’t win. As long as the race comes down between Barrack Obama and John McCain, as a country, I believe we’ve already won.

It is my opinion that both of these men would make better leaders than we have had in many years.
John McCain has been my favorite republican for years. It’s his liberal tendencies that I like the most. I’d bet that he’s the favorite republicans of most democrats. I strongly believe he would be the best candidate when it comes to party differences. Most republicans loathe Hillary Clinton and Obama is probably too far to the left to get much republican support. Sure I worry about his age. We’ve all seen how the office can age a person. Look at any president’s pictures from the day they took the oath until the day they left office. They all look like they gain twenty-five years not four to eight.

While I’m not convinced that Obama can get us out of the Iraqi quagmire as quickly as he boasts he can, I do think that he’s a brilliant man and capable leader. We need a charismatic person like him in the White House to regain both our international respect as well as our own national self-respect. He seems to base his opinions on logic more than anything else. Logically, most of what our government does, doesn’t make any sense. Having a logical leader would logically help solve this problem. Follow my logic?

Hillary Clinton, I believe, would base her opinions on public opinion and polls more than anything else. She’s the quintessential politician and I don’t trust a word that comes out of her mouth.

Once Obama becomes the democratic candidate, the choice gets a little more difficult to make.

I don’t mind higher taxes which is the main reason my decision to be a democrat is an easy one. This isn’t a religious statement but being Godless clinches the deal. Take out taxes and God and I can’t think of a single reason to be a Republican. I personally feel that higher taxes are a necessity for our country. We can’t possibly provide healthcare and accept our global responsibility of protecting nations from bringing humanity to a state of destruction and chaos without the funds. I’m also in the globalization business and eradicating our national debt is the most surefire way of raising the dollar’s value. A higher dollar for me would far and away offset higher taxes. I also enjoy my personal freedoms, my right to surf whatever crazy websites I want without them being illegal and I’d certainly like to see stem cell research and other emerging technologies not stymied by the republicans. For all of these reasons I’m a democrat.

On the other hand, I firmly support The United States approach to policing the world. I’m worried that Obama will pull too far away from this. I’m sure many Americans and nearly everyone else will have a problem with this statement but let me explain.

After World War I the League of Nations was established. President Wilson and his foreign counterparts believed that the way to avoid another global conflict was for a group of powerful nations to police the world. They were right but they didn’t do their job. For twenty years they never took this task seriously and punished Germany for a war (WWI) that really wasn’t their fault but instead the result of all European powers building up their force to a point where firing started and nobody could even remember why. Fascism arose due to an do-nothing-League-of-Nations and before we knew it we were in another world war.

After World War II we tried again. This time we formed the United Nations and France, Russia, China, The United Kingdom and The United States took on the primary responsibility of policing the world. It was widely considered during this period that policing the world was a necessity. All the great thinkers of the age agreed.

What are we to do now that we are the sole remaining super power? I’ll tell you. We must police the world. It is our responsibility alone until the European Union gets its own common military in order and can share the burden.

Where George Bush will go down as one of the world’s worst presidents is his horrible handling of this awesome responsibility. Just because he muddled it, doesn’t mean the work doesn’t need to be done.
So once again I believe that we’ll be forced to make a presidential vote based on the lesser of two evils. While I believe McCain is the man to make the tough military decisions he’s still a republican and ultimately I’ll vote Obama. Hopefully, once in office, he’ll continue our long tradition of policing the world without getting us directly involved with unnecessary conflicts like the one in Iraq.

If there is a God, I pray to  him now that Clinton doesn’t win.

    Rick, I disagree that Republicans won't vote for Obama. I've personally switched party lines to do so. There's no way I'm voting for McCain, who wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years. The war is just too costly for our economy, and I'm not exactly sure what the safest way to go about fixing things and leaving is.

    Rick, you say you support Obama but your opinions on foreign policy sound like right-wing to me. The US needs to stop "policing" the world. The US needs to understand that it's not the 1950's anymore and to survive as a respectable country it has to act responsibly towards other countries as well. Obama's position about foreign affairs is that of communication, not that of arrogance (e.g. Hillary Clinton's).

    Every involvement of the US since WWII - which the US entered 2 years after its start only because it was attacked directly by Japan - has ended in the instability of the region: Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, Central America, Iraq. With all due respect, throwing politics into business, such as domains, is the best way to alienate oneself and polarize sales.

    For the record, I support Obama as well.

    You have some good points, Rick. As per the tax issue, you sound like Bill Gate and Warren Buffet. Which is good and hopefully you're on your way to be as rich as they are, some day..... Secondly, I think experience really matters in this presidential election. That is why I am not really comfortable imagining Obama as the Commander-in-Chief (even though, we're both from Africa - ah ah). There are so many things going on: wars, economic crisis, et cetera, et cetera. I am not sure if Obama is up to the task. Being charismaristic and likeable can’t solve world problem – GW Bush won based on those two qualities; see what happened.

    By the way, I don't concur with ACROPLEX on alienation/sales. If people need your business and you are valuable, they would would come to you regardless. Most tech honchos are famously liberal in there views and the republicans can't do without their products. E.g. Steve Job, with Rush Limbaugh praising Apple Mac on his radio show saying " I am a big Mac Guy." You don't have to flow with everybody to be accepted, especially if you have good things to offer.

    Hey Rick -- For the Republicans, I think Hillary would be much easier to embrace than Obama. Remember, the Clinton's did embrace liberals during Bill's first race, then sold all of them out once in The White House. Essentially, the Clinton's were pretty middle of the road in many respects.

    Obama's record is notoriously liberal and extremely limited. The Republicans are not thrilled with McCain. However, he does speak his mind and willing to chart his own course regardless of party affiliation.

    McCain does have the guts to make tough decisions regarding fighting terror or anything else. Not sure that Obama would be able to 'push the button'. Hillary can be ruthless, but would take her a little while to get there. McCain able to make an immediate decision. Bet his decisive manner would probably scare the heck out of many because of his 'scorched earth' approach to things.

    In any event, I am ready for this election cycle to be over. Tired of the commercials, tired of hearing about the millions of dollars raised, and exhausted with the spin doctors pontificating every night.

    I'd like to add that anyone that wants McCain to win should hope Obama beats Clinton. The reality is that someone that far to the left can't win the Whitehouse.

    Any time there is a presidential election I feel like I'm just choosing between the lesser of two evils. I haven't ever thought to my self, "Yes, this person should lead our country."

    It's always, "I can't believe we only get to pick between these people."

    You do a good job of laying out why you believe Obama would be a good choice. Those are exactly the reasons why I believe he would be the second worse choice. Hillary is the most dangerous person in the world for the freedoms we hold so dear.

    I fear you are to young to know of the 20% prime interest rates, 12% unemployment and misery index of the Carter years. With the massive tax increases, socialist policies I feel quite sure he would be highly successful in making Carter look good.

    You sound much as I did when I was much younger. I am quite sure a lot of my ancestors rolled in their graves when I changed my registration to Independent. Actually I did not leave the Democrat party it left me. I value my freedoms to much to go with the socialist desire to control everything in my life. Oh where is the Democrat party of Truman and JFK.

    i agree with rick US needs to police the wrld....( in a responsible matter)...there will be a big time chaos . i am from india yet support US as a superpower. there is no other country in this world which is probably as powerful as USA so as to stop any rogue country...(the only country i think may be able to is china(communist) which if u see its past military record is not so keen on helping other countries....)
    the iraq war was unnecessary . the afghan war was necessary... bush should have invested money in alternative sources of energy like wind etc than spending billions in the iraq war.

    i do not no muich about the candidates...thus may the best candidate win.

    Although I support Rick's idea of globalization, I don't agree with the idea of higher taxes. I don't know... I think it's better to have money in our pocket than the government's.
    I wonder how people will vote if there's "None of the above" on the ballot ?

    As a young person, I was afforded the opportunity to listen to some of the best oraters of the time. It is almost a lost art, to have someone fashion words so well, that they bring you to the edge of your seat with interest or inspiration. Billy Graham was one such speaker. Martin Luther King was another. JFK, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, were others.

    In all those examples, the speakers personal convictions came through the words. In order to be truly inspirational, you must be honest and open. You must give of yourself and enter the hearts and minds of the audience.

    Barrack Obama does this so well. He is inspiring to listen to. A great "leader" must unify the people and inspire them to greater things and a common cause. It is not just the words, from the pen of a great speech writer that make it special. It is more. It is deeper.

    The US faces troubling times ahead. This is a time for their friends to rally around them, but I wonder if that will happen. After the US has generously given of itself, to countries all around the world, will they now stand up and be counted as friends?

    A "leader" like Barrack Obama can and will enable that, I hope. His vision is clear. He will make mistakes along the way, but they will be "honest" mistakes. He has chosen a path, and hopefully the people will accept his offer to lead, and give him the support he needs to carry out his vision.

    Is there any more that the country can ask of a leader?

    He can have a domain stimulus program by taking money from the sucessful domainers and giving it to the ones who bought crappy domains and cannot afford the renewals. You see, the Government knows better how to distribute domain money much better than those domainers involved in the business. in fact, we should should probably set price controls to make sure everything is fair.

    Then everybody can walk around like zombies because nobody wants to work because the corrupt officials running all these organizations will blow all the money by doing favors for their friends. We can just convert the border patrols to keep people in because they will all want to go down to Caymen islands with the 7 Mile guy.

    Before you know it the country will be bankrupt and cannot help/police anyone.

    I am absolutely for B.Obama! Not only because he used to live in my country as a kid for 5 years (in Indonesia) but also he has shown a different and strong mind to the people in the US that he could make the country and hopefully this world as a much better or at least proper place where humans can really live. I don't know I think I'm a bit tired of same looking presidents of the US from years to years. Maybe a new color would make a new and better change. I am not that racist even though I might sound like I was. But sometimes races indicate different and unique characters. That's not really a lie, I think.

    Go Obama! Go Obama! I know I can't vote for you from Indonesia but my big spirit is there for you.
